Press Release No 27 – RBF Transfers Profit to Government

Minister for Finance, Honorable Esrom Yosef Immanuel with Governor Ariff Ali and RBF Board Directors during the handover of profits to Government
The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) presented its 2025 – 2026 audited financial statements, and operations report to the Honourable Minister for Finance, Mr Esrom Yosef Immanuel, after the signing at its Board meeting this morning.
Reserve Bank Governor and Board Chair, Mr Ariff Ali, revealed that the Bank recorded a net profit of $120.6 million for the financial year ended 31 July 2026, the fourth consecutive year where profits exceeded $100 million. The positive result was supported by the continued prudent management of the country’s foreign reserves and rising global interest rates on investments.
During the year, amendments to the RBF Act 1983 applied with effect from 2024 – 2025 financial year, enabled the Bank’s financial statements to be prepared in full compliance with IFRS Accounting Standards. Accordingly, the derivation of the Bank’s profitability includes both realised and unrealised gains and losses in foreign exchange rate translation, dispensing of the past ‘emphasis of matter’ reference to IAS 21, The Effects of Changes in Foreign Exchange Rates. However, consistent with global central bank practice, the amendment to the Act restricts the distribution of unrealised gains or losses. The financial impact of any unrealised gains or losses for the financial year will therefore be adjusted prior to the distribution of profits to Government.
As a result of these changes, $118.0 million was transferred to Government which comprises the 2025 – 2026 financial year net profit of $120.6 million, a transfer of $0.7 million from the Unrealised Revaluation Reserve Account to offset unrealised losses, a prior year adjustment of $2.4 million, and a transfer of $1.0 million to the General Reserves. Governor Ali stated that full compliance with IFRS is fundamental to the Bank’s credibility and alignment with global financial governance. He added that the central bank remained well positioned to continue to perform its statutory mandate for the country in a financially sound and transparent manner. Over the past five financial periods the RBF has transferred a total of $548.0 million to Government.
On behalf of the Reserve Bank Board and staff, the Governor acknowledged the valuable contributions of its partners and stakeholders in the achievements of the 2025–2026 financial year and looked forward to their continued support.
