Press Release No 14 – Reserve Bank of Fiji Reiterates Warning on Investment Recommendations Presented Through Social Media Platforms
The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) reiterates that a video which continues to be circulating on various digital platforms in Fiji and abroad, has falsely portrayed the Governor as promoting an investment scheme claimed to be administered by the RBF.
The statements made in the video are entirely fabricated as they have been generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The RBF does not engage nor endorse such an investment platform that promotes trades automatically and categorically denies any involvement in such promotions. We strongly warn against anyone seeking to make investment decisions based on the information provided by the video, as well as those who may be fronting as agents of the purported investment platform either through a request to click a link to provide personal information online or responding to telephone calls promoting the platform.
Those who seek to engage in any investment scheme must be extra vigilant when relying on recommendations disseminated through social media platforms and be able to recognise scams. They are encouraged to verify sources of information they are using before investing their hard-earned savings.
Members of the public need to exercise caution when engaging in schemes operated through unknown individuals or entities, as fraudulent schemes are becoming more sophisticated in their approach to lure uninformed investors, and report such similar suspicious content to the RBF.
The RBF further requests media institutions to assist in raising public awareness of these fraudulent attempts through both traditional and digital channels, including news reports, television, radio announcements, and online platforms.
