Press Release No 22 – From Vision to Action Fiji Innovation Hub Unveils New Space
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industries, Commerce, Business Development and Public Enterprises, Honorable Manoa Kamikamica, Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development Honorable Esrom Immanuel with partners during the unveiling of the new Fiji Innovation Hub space.
The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) today officially unveiled the new Fiji Innovation Hub (FIH) space at the Reserve Bank Building, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Fiji’s innovation ecosystem and supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs, startups and innovators. The commemorative plaque was unveiled by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industries, Commerce, Business Development and Public Enterprises, Honourable Manoa Kamikamica.
The new Hub provides a dedicated and central platform where innovators, entrepreneurs, startups, development partners and industry stakeholders can connect, collaborate and access the support needed to transform ideas into impactful and scalable solutions. Designed to foster innovation-led growth, the space underscores Fiji’s commitment to building a more dynamic, inclusive and resilient economy.
The launch brought together representatives from government, development partners, the private sector, financial institutions and the entrepreneurial community to celebrate the opening of a facility that will serve as a catalyst for innovation, enterprise development and economic opportunity.
In his opening remarks, the RBF Governor, Mr Ariff Ali highlighted the significance of creating a dedicated environment where innovation can thrive and entrepreneurs can access the support needed to turn ideas into impactful solutions. “Innovation is no longer a peripheral issue. It is central to Fiji’s economic future. This space will serve as a hub for innovation, driving economic opportunities and providing a platform to leverage technology in addressing Fiji’s economic challenges.”
Delivering the keynote address, Honourable Manoa Kamikamica reaffirmed the Coalition Government’s commitment to fostering innovation as a driver of economic resilience, productivity and competitiveness. “The Coalition Government is committed to building a more productive, inclusive, and resilient economy. The Fiji Innovation Hub serves as a catalyst for driving this agenda forward and fostering sustainable economic growth.”
The event also recognised the invaluable contributions of the Fiji Innovation Hub’s partners whose support has been instrumental in establishing the Hub’s new premises and advancing its successful pilot year. Appreciation tokens were presented to partner organisations in acknowledgement of their commitment to nurturing Fiji’s innovation ecosystem and bringing the Hub’s vision to life.
The RBF gratefully acknowledges the support of the Fiji Innovation Hub’s key partners including United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pacific Digital Economy Programme (PDEP) through funding by the European Union, the Government of Australia and the Government of New Zealand, Mastercard, Ministry of Industries, Commerce and Business Development and Public Enterprises, HFC Bank, Fiji Airways and implementation partner Creative HQ.
The Ambassador of the European Union to the Pacific, Her Excellency Barbara Plinkert highlighted the broader significance of the initiative, stating, “Fiji Innovation Hub brings elements that the Global Gateway activities and the learnings from the EU-Pacific Business Forum have echoed: connectivity, digital transformation, resilience and sustainable economic development.”
Similar sentiments were shared by the representatives of the Government of Australia, the Government of New Zealand and the United Nations Development Program Pacific Office centered on collaboration in the pursuit of shared responsibilities.
During the event, the Deputy Prime Minister also announced the addition of two new partners – the Ministry of Policing and Communications, and the Fiji Development Bank, who have committed to provide sponsorship support for the Fiji Innovation Hub’s second year activities.
Guests were subsequently taken on a guided tour of the facility, learn more about how the Hub will support innovators, entrepreneurs and startups. As Fiji’s innovation landscape continues to evolve, the Fiji Innovation Hub will play a pivotal role in connecting entrepreneurs with government, financial institutions, investors and development partners, helping to accelerate innovation-led enterprises and contribute to sustainable economic growth across Fiji and the Pacific region.
