Press Release No 02 – Reserve Bank of Fiji Issues General Insurer Licence to AMA Insurance Company Limited
The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) would like to announce that arising from its Board meeting of 29 January 2026, the Board has approved the issuance of a General Insurance licence to AMA Insurance Company Limited (AMA). This is after AMA has satisfactorily met the licensing requirements stipulated under section 25 of the Insurance Act 1998.
AMA Insurance Company Limited is a subsidiary of Apia Insurance Company Limited in Western Samoa. The establishment of AMA is anticipated to broaden insurance underwriting capacity and claims administration services in Fiji. The offering of additional insurance products and services is expected to enhance risk management solutions in the Fiji insurance market.
The RBF welcomes the setting up of another general insurer in the Fijian market, noting that such investment underscores confidence in the financial sector and the economy. With this addition, the number of licensed general insurers operating in Fiji has increased to eight, a positive development that fosters continued growth and diversification in the domestic financial services sector.
